We’re glad to have you with us and to share a few loops around the sun together on this planet we all call home.

Possible by Design is an independent non-profit dedicated to empowering individuals with the knowledge, resources, and inspiration to address climate change and to live sustainably.

We’ve read thousands of articles and track the latest by global climate and sustainability experts so you don’t have to.  Dive into the details with us or simply browse the short summaries.  We make complex topics easy to understand and provide impactful ideas that are fun and easy for everyone to action.

We're Here to Help

We are moms and great grandpas, youth and artists, managers, engineers, university professors, and from many other walks of life.

We believe:

  1. that the world must be mindful in solving for energy, climate, and sustainability at the same time and within the Planetary Boundary framework,

  2. that we already have what we need to live well and sustainably,

  3. that the future is something we design and build together,

  4. that every voice matters and has the power to create change.

While the science is clear and affordable solutions already exist to live well and sustainably, the situation is complex and we have left a key group of stakeholders behind:  everyone who cares but doesn’t have time to make sense of the waves of complex and conflicting information.

At Possible by Design, we translate the carbon math, the planetary boundaries, and the spectrum of climate and sustainability solutions into clear, practical guidance you can use in everyday life.

We help you move from caring and confusion to clarity, action, and impact.

Vision and Mission

Our Vision:  A world where every individual is empowered with a clear understanding of sustainability and where meaningful action is fun and accessible for all.  Where it’s easy to be good stewards of our resources and to pass along a healthy planet to future generations.

Our Mission:  To provide data-driven insights and ideas.  (We get nerdy so you don’t have to.)  To raise awareness, build community, provide hope, and empower individuals to take action.

Core Values

Our Core Values

  • Inclusion:  Everyone is welcome, and every effort to live sustainably is recognized and celebrated.

  • Gratitude:  We operate from a deep foundation of gratitude - thankful for the gift of time on this planet and thankful for friends at home and across the world who care.

  • Hopeful Realism:  We believe that it is possible to live well and sustainably.  We focus on solutions and bring hope through a deeper understanding of the ‘what’ and the ‘how’.

  • Data-Driven: We are science-first and fact-focused.

  • Accessibility: We make complex ideas understandable and actionable.

  • Empowerment: We are all stewards of this planet for future generations.  We actively include voices of all ages.

  • Community: We build networks of care, collaboration, and shared purpose.

  • Creative Collaborations:  The set of sustainability ideas is unbounded, and creators everywhere want to help.  We actively seek to engage them and help share their voices.

The good news?  We don’t need to turn the ship 90 degrees, but we do need to nudge it by a few degrees to get on track.  It’s a big ship, and more voices will nudge it faster.

Okay, I'm listening.  But why should I have hope?

Hang in there!  Not only are we not done until the answers are clear and the world is on track, we've set the bar at 'delight'.  We're not done until you feel connected, reassured, and delighted about the way forward on these grand challenges.

It is an honour to be walking together on this journey.  Welcome aboard, and please remember to send us your thoughts and ideas!  It will be a journey of a thousand steps so let's make it fun.

Our
Story

Possible's Origins

Possible's story began in 2018, when "the Engineer sister" left a 26‑year aerospace career and moved into climate tech. At the same time, "the Counsellor sister" was a university professor teaching counselling psychology students how to support people experiencing climate anxiety and grief.

The Counsellor sister kept asking for hopeful, grounded ways to talk about climate action. The Engineer sister kept trying - and mostly failing - to explain that while the work ahead is substantial, the solutions are feasible ('just engineering'), affordable, and well within human capability.  And that we could still live well and that most things would cost just a little bit more after we finished cleaning up our mess so that we didn't leave it to future generations.

Over time, and with a patient sister and a generous community, the message became clearer:  people need compassion, insights, and ideas.  And they need to know how we can solve this together.

In 2025, the Engineer sister finally retired and along with a community of friends, the two of them began building Possible by Design with that simple idea at its core.
