Subject: Four practical steps your company can take toward a healthier future


Dear [Company / CEO / Sustainability Lead],


I’m writing as a customer who cares deeply about leaving a healthy planet for future generations - and who has been trying to understand what it would actually take to get there.


I’m not a climate expert, but the more I’ve learned, the clearer the path has become. The cost of meaningful climate progress is far more manageable than I assumed - most products end up being only about 2% more expensive - and much of what’s needed comes down to a small number of practical decisions that companies and governments can make together. I’m writing because companies like yours have an outsized ability to shape what becomes possible. There are four specific steps I hope you will consider supporting and championing - both in your own operations and in your conversations with policymakers.


1. Support climate footprint labels on products and services.


Everyday purchases drive over 40 gigatonnes of emissions each year, and most of these emissions sit in supply chains that respond quickly when transparency improves. Climate footprint labels make those emissions visible right where decisions happen - on the shelf and at checkout - and that visibility drives competition, efficiency, and cleanup across the largest and most flexible parts of the economy. Labels cost almost nothing to implement and could reduce emissions by around 3 gigatonnes per year through supply-chain improvements alone.


Companies can help by preparing to disclose footprints, improving data quality, and publicly supporting the adoption of clear, consistent labeling standards.


2. Support recognition of all science-aligned abatement pathways, including permanent carbon dioxide removal.


Permanent carbon dioxide removal is essential for hard-to-abate sectors and for addressing the emissions already in the atmosphere. Without recognized standards, companies are forced into higher-cost options while lower-cost, science-aligned alternatives sit unused.


Recognizing all science-aligned abatement pathways is a no-cost policy decision that would save governments, companies, and taxpayers trillions of dollars globally each year. Companies can help by advocating for clear standards and by using high-integrity pathways in their own climate strategies.


3. Offer trusted Geo Zero products.


Many consumers want to buy products that leave no greenhouse gas pollution behind, and many companies want to offer them. But without a recognized definition of “Geo Zero” - reducing emissions as much as possible and permanently removing the rest - credible Geo Zero products cannot enter the market.

Companies can help by supporting the development of a clear definition and by preparing to offer products that meet it.


4. Support regulations that cover all emissions with a clear path to zero.


Net-zero commitments require regulations that cover all emissions with a predictable, gradual ramp to zero. A slow, steady requirement gives every sector the certainty and time it needs to plan and invest.
Companies can help by voicing support for clear, long-term rules that create a level playing field and reward early action.


These four steps work together as a system. They create the information, the standards, the products, and the regulatory clarity that allow companies, innovators, and consumers to do what they are ready and willing to do.
