Advocacy Ideas

Ideas that help governments, companies, and communities move faster - together

Small actions matter, and when we put our voices together, the impact multiplies. Clear, confident advocacy helps governments and companies move faster, lower costs, and build solutions at scale.

At its heart, advocacy is just asking for smart design:  simple rules that make climate progress pragmatic, transparent, and more affordable.

This section brings together globally-relevant, science-aligned advocacy ideas that can be used in any jurisdiction. These ideas are designed to be simple, hopeful, and actionable.

Each idea gives you:

  • a clear explanation of the problem

  • why it matters

  • what governments can do

  • what companies can do

  • what individuals can do

  • estimated impact

  • easy-to-use template emails to reach out to a government representative, a company, or others in your community

If you support all four ideas, you'll find combined template letters for individuals, companies, and government representatives at the bottom of the page.

To help make these ideas concrete, some pages include a case study using Canadian data and a downloadable, two-page briefing note - but the ideas themselves are universal. Adapt them to your context, share them widely, and help accelerate change.

A Complete Set of Four Actions

The four ideas below work together as a complete system. Each one addresses a different part of the climate puzzle:

  • Climate Footprint Labels → information to empower informed choices

  • Abatement Pathways → standards that unlock science-aligned solutions

  • Geo Zero Products → enable trusted, sustainable choices

  • Regulate All Emissions → a clear, predictable path to zero

On their own, each idea helps. Together, they unlock the lowest‑cost, most practical path to climate progress - without requiring new science, new technology, or new spending.

Climate Footprint Labels

A simple way for people to see and compare the climate impact of everyday products and make informed, confident choices - helping us avoid billions of tonnes of emissions annually.

Geo Zero Products

Helping people buy trusted, everyday products without leaving greenhouse gas pollution behind.

Abatement Pathways

A no‑cost, high‑impact way for governments to accelerate net zero while lowering costs for households, businesses, and taxpayers.

Regulate All Emissions, With a Clear Path to Zero

A slow, steady ramp to zero lets every sector move at a manageable pace while ensuring we actually reach the finish line.

Why These Four?

These four ideas create the information, standards, products, and regulatory backbone that allow climate progress to accelerate quickly and affordably.

They are the complete set - the smallest number of decisions that unlock the largest impact.

We’ve made transitions like this before: cleaning up smog, healing the ozone layer, phasing out lead. Small upgrades that made the world cleaner. These four ideas follow the same pattern: simple standards that fill the gaps and provide transparency, with big benefits for everyone.

Template Letters You Can Use

Many people support all four ideas and want a simple way to express that support. Below are three ready‑to‑use templates you can adapt and send.

You're Part of Something Real

Every letter adds to a growing signal. Change often begins with people like you - in communities near and far - deciding that asking matters. When that signal builds, decision‑makers notice. You’re not just calling for change, you’re helping shape the conditions that make it possible.

If you’ve taken action - written a letter, contacted a company, or started a conversation - please share it through your daily Atlas contribution. Tell us what you did, who you reached out to, and where you’re writing from. Your action becomes part of the Your Ideas page, where a clearer picture of who is acting, and where, is slowly coming into focus.
